Lincolnshire PGA - An Overview

HOLME HALL PRO-AM RESULTS AND LATEST PING ORDER OF MERIT NOW POSTED

PING CONTINUE SONSORSHIP OF THE KARSTEN BOWL

It is appropriate that this years venue is Gainsborough (16th August) as PING continue their generous prize fund sponsorship. As always the top 15 qualifiers of this stroke play event, together with last year's Match Play Champion, will do battle for the Match play Championship over the Kenwick Park Course, 14 / 15th October. Entry forms now posted in 'Events' section.

DATE CHANGES

The popular Greetham Valley Pro-Am has been re-scheduled. THE NEW DATE IS TUESDAY 3rd AUGUST. Another date change is that of the Waltham Windmill event. It has been re-scheduled for FRIDAY 27th AUGUST, and note that Kenwick Park has moved to THURSDAY 16th SEPTEMBER. The Elsham Pro-Am is now WEDNESDAY 6th OCTOBER.

WILL A PROFESSIONAL WIN THE LINCOLNSHIRE OPEN ?

Over the last eight years elite amateurs have only taken the title three times. Currently the Champion is Neil Evans of Greetham Valley. Whilst Neil will earnestly defend the title early indications are that many of the county's professional 'big guns' will be missing from the field. Professionals are urged to enter to maintain our outstanding record.

A busy week for the Lincolnshire Pro's!

While the golfing world were focused on St Andrews and the 2010 Open Championship it was business as usual for the Lincolnshire Professionals who visited Grange Park at the start of the week.  It would be fair to say that the quality of Golf from the leading three players would not have been out of place at the home of golf.

John Wells (Cherry Burton) would be forgiven for thinking that it was not going to be his day when he made a bogey 5 at the relatively straight forward 1st hole, but birdies at the 5th, 6th and 9th saw him reach the turn in 2 under.  The back 9 continued in a similar fashion with birdies at the 11th, 12th, 15th and John capped a magnificent performance with a birdie 2 at the demanding 210 yard par 3 18th hole.  Scott Emery (Woodhall Spa) fired a 4 under 66 to claim 2nd place and his round couldn't have started any better by holing his 2nd shot at the 1st and posting further birdies at the 3rd and 4th saw him at 4 under through 4 holes. Further birdies at 11th and 13th were cancelled out by bogeys at 7th and 18th.  Neil Evans (Greetham Valley) made up the top 3 with a round of 68.

Scott Emery also guided his team of Grange Park members to victory as their knowledge of the course proved invaluable on their way to 17 under par score of 123.  The team consisted of Mark Altoft, J. Mitchell and D. Carter.

Meanwhile at the worlds most famous golf tournament Paul Streeter of Lincoln Golf Centre got off to a blistering start at the Open by holing a snaking 60 footer for eagle at the Par 5 the hole much to the delight of Peter Alliss in the commentry box he followed that with a birdie 3 at the demanding 6th Hole.  Unfortunately Paul was not able to maintain his charge as conditions detiriated and by Friday evening Paul's maiden appearance at the Open Championship was over with two scores of 76 missing the cut by 6 shots.  Paul certainly fell foul of the draw as his late tee times saw him encounter the worst of the playing conditions.

The Colleys sponsored Sleaford Pro Am took place in blustery conditions and in a Pro Am that you normally need a score of 5 under just to cover your travel expenses it was Neil Evans who played in some of the worst conditions posted a 2 under par score of 70 to claim 1st place.  Scott Emery continued his fine form with his second 2nd place finish of the week with a score of 71. Darryl Frame posted a level par round of 72 to make up the top 3.  However Darryl was bemoaning a lack of holed putts which ultimately proved costly but he took heart from his solid long game.

Hare and Fulton share the spoils!

Andrew Hare and Iain Fulton have been crowned kings of the Ladies...............Pro am at Ashby Decoy.  Their three under par scores of 68 tied for 1st place.  Hare who went out in 36 shots (one over) made a blistering start to the back nine holes with birdie at ten, eagle at the par 5 11th hole a steady par 3 at the 12th and a birdie 4 at the Scotter road hole the 13th.  He came home in an impressive 32 shots (4 under for the back 9 holes)  Iain built on a 2nd place finish earlier in the week to post another impressive sub round score in testing bouncy conditions.Tom Rastall (Sleaford) completed the top three with a two under 69.

Greenwood stays out the Woods at Belton!

Dan Greenwood (Forest Pines) showed his class to win the De Vere Belton Woods event played on the 'Woodside' course.  The event was a great success due to home professionals Iain Fulton and Matt Buckley hard work.  Greenwood claimed his first victory of the season with a fine 3 under par score in blustery conditions.  The five par 5's on the woodside course certainly proved to be to Greenwoods liking who finished two shots clear of Iain Fulton.  There was a whole host of players tied for third on level par 73.

Paul is heading to the 'home of golf'

Paul Streeter (Lincoln Golf Centre) has qualified to play in this years Open Championship at St Andrews alongside the like of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson and Lee Westwood.  Paul advanced to local final qualifying at Scotscraig thanks to a fine round at Lindrick in regional qualifying.  The task of actually making the Open once you are at final qualifying is certainly not an easy one!  With just twelve places available from 300 golfers over 4 demanding golf courses.

However Paul did it in style by winning his qualifying event with rounds of 69 and 66 to post a 5 under par total which saw him 2 clear of the chasing pack. 32 strokes on the final 9 holes (3 under) was all Paul needed to claim a spot at the most famous tournament in the world.  Congratulations paul and all at the Lincolnshire PGA wish you a successful tournament.

Andrew turns back the clock!!

Andrew Hare relived the glory years with a glorious 5 under par 65 to win the Cleethorpes Pro Am.  Andrew who has posted a number of impressive scores over the past few years but he will be extremely happy with his days work.  Cleethorpes was presented in magnificent conditon with the greens running at more than 10 on the stimp metre.  Paul Streeter may have been forgiven for thinking it might not have been his day when he drove under a lone tree at the first hole but he was unfazed to post a 67 alongside John Wells of Cherry Burton who has already tasted success in a Lincolnshire Pro am this year at Immingham earlier in the season.

A Rare bird is spotted at Stoke Rochford!!!

Congratulations to Steve Buckley (Belton Woods) who enjoyed an ALBATROSS TWO at the the par 5 16th Hole.  The three under par score on the 16th hole ironically led the team to a three shot winning margin!

1966 was a great year for England- 66 is a great score from Rastall

Tom Rastall (Sleaford) produced a fine score of 66 to win the Stoke Rochford Pro Am by a single shot.  His 4 under par score set a fine mark on the wonderful undulating course.  The recent dry weather mean't that players had to be in total control of their golf ball if they were to be successful and use a great deal of imagination which Rastall almost certainly did.  He was one shot clear of Dan Greenwood (Forest Pines) who returned top form with a highly commendable 67.  The top three was made up by form player and Lincs PGA new boy Dan Clarke with a 2 under par score of 68.

Buckley Quartet lead the way!!!

Matt Buckley (Belton Woods) and his team of S. Buckley, J. Carty and C. Jones produced some scintilating golf to finish on a 15 under par total of 125. They were three shots clear of the second place team which was led by Individual champion Tom Rastall.  His team consisted of a trio of Barclays. The quartet clearly must have 'banked' some fine prizes!!!!Three teams tied for 3rd on 129, the team professionals were Dan Clarke, Paul Bradshaw and Iain Fulton.  But it was Iain's team who claimed 3rd place on countback.
