Streeter does the double!!

Paul Streeter continued his phenomenal 2010 season at Elsham GC with victory in the Lincolnshire Open where Lincolnshires finest Professionals and Amateurs competed for the coverted trophy around the North Lincolnshire course.  Paul opened with a two under par 69 to be just one shot behind the first round leader and defending champion Neil Evans. Amateur Richard Latham (Woodhall Spa) was also in the mix at halfway also on 69.

After lunch was when the fireworks really started for Streeter, birdies at the 3rd, 5th, 6th,10th,11th,14th and 15th were bettered only by an eagle 3 at the 5th hole.  Despite a bogey at the demanding 17th hole Paul posted a magnificent course record 63 to claim victory by 5 shots.  Neil Evans the first round leader fired a very respectable 69 in a valiant defence of his title he claimed at Belton Park in 2009 to finish in second.  Amateur Shaun Marshall (Carholme) produced the afternoons second best score, a 3 under par 68.

Congratulations once again to Paul Streeter who added yet another local title to his collection and in doing so the prestigious honour of holding both the Karsten Bowl (Lincolnshire Professionals Championship) and the Lincolnshire Open in the same year.

Wells leaves it late to win at Waltham

John Wells (Cherry Burton) certainly enjoys his ventures into Lincolnshire, having already claimed victory at the innagural Immingham Pro Am as well as the Grange Park Pro Am he has added a third Lincolnshire PGA title this year with a prolific win at the well supported Waltham Windmill Pro Am.  John was a late entry to the event (the day before!!) and was also the last man off the golf course with dusk fast approaching.  However, none of this was able to prevent John claiming first prize with a fine score and a new Professional course record of 65.  John's impressive score was helped considerably with a pair of two's at the demanding par threes the 5th and 14th where par is normally considered a fine achievement.

While all the attention turned to John Wells and his course record spare a thought for Paul Bradshaw the former england International who was the long time clubhouse leader on 68 courtesy of a birdie 3 at the 18th hole which seperated him from the group on tied 3rd which included Michael Langford (Kenwick Park), Paul Streeter (Lincoln Golf Centre) and home professional Stephen Bennett (Waltham Windmill).

In the team event there was better news for Paul Bradshaw as his team posted a formidable 18 under par (124) to secure victory by three shots.  Paul's team consisted of Richard Parsons, N. Holdsworth and J. Lax.

Stephen Bennett's connections with the senior tour helped secure entries from Mike Cunning (USA), who incidentally finished tied 6th in the individual event tied with another senior tour member Gordon J Brand the former Ryder Cup player who guided his team of Neil Strawson, Bob Greetham and F Taylor narrowly into second place in the team event. This was on countback ahead of Neil Evans' Greetham Valley Team.

Greenwood cleans up at Rasen!!

(Sorry about the picture Dan!!)

Dan Greenwood (Forest Pines) cleaned up at the Market Rasen Ladies Pro am with a sublime round of 67 to finish 5 shots clear of his nearest rivals Scott Emery and Simon Appleton.  Dan's only blemish came at the final hole the par 3 18th but even a bogey 4 couldn't dent his large winning margin.

In the team event it was a similar story but this time with two Greenwoods (Dan and his good lady)in the winning team, along with J. Marshall and J. Cook. They were victorious by 2 shots from 3 teams led by there Professionals Scott Emery, Becky Davies and Darryl Frame.

HOLE IN ONE!!!!

Congratulations to Becky Davies (Bonday Golf Club) who achieved a hole in one at the 12th hole.

Sophie Walker (Forest Pines) narrowly missed out on her maiden victory on the Ladies European Tour at Archerfield Links in Scotland.  In testing conditions Sophie's 2 over par score was just one shot behind eventual winner Virginie Lagoutte-Clement of France.  Courtesy of her fine week Sophie moved up 16 places to 42nd in the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit.

Streeter crowned Karsten Bowl Champ!

Paul Streeter was crowned Lincolnshire PGA champion following the Ping sponsored Karsten Bowl at Gainsborough Golf Club.  Paul posted an impressive 7 under par total to claim victory by 2 shots from Tom Rastall (Sleaford).  Paul shot 3 under par in the morning around the Thonock Park course despite a 3 putt at the 18th.  Paul soon put his disappointment behind him after lunch and got to work in shooting a 4 under 68 around the karsten lakes course.  Halfway leader Tom Rastall posted a sublime 65 in the morning which included an eagle 3 at the 17th.  However Tom didn't have it all his own way at the 1st hole when he 3 putted from 12 feet.  However he showed his metal with birdies at the 6th,7th,8th,10th and his afore mentioned eagle at 17.  Tom's excellent tee to green golf continued in the afternoon but he was unable to put the finishing touches to his fine approach shots on the greens.  However a birdie 3 at his 36th hole of the day showed Tom's determination and his potential to be a future champion. Neil Evans and Scott Emery finished in equal 3rd position.

The Lincolnshire PGA would like to thank Ping Europe once more for their generous sponsorship of Lincolnshires Premier event.

Birdie BONANZA at Belton!!

Paul Streeter (Lincoln Golf Centre) went birdie mad at the 27 hole Belton Park Pro Am to post an 11 under par score of 94! Paul who played holes 10-18 in the morning posted a 3 under par 32.  After lunch it was on to the 'tricky' 9 holes of 19-27 where Paul posted a steady 2 under par 32 which included driving the par 4 22nd hole and narrowly missing his 12 foot eagle putt.  Then the fireworks began!! Birdies at the 1st and 2nd hole could only be bettered by an eagle 2 at the Par 4 3rd hole had Paul at 9 under par a birdie at the uphill par 5 5th meant Paul had played the first 5 holes of his final 9 holes in 5 under par! With victory already assured Streeter added a birdie 3 at his final hole. 30 strokes to play holes 1-9 was spectacular for the Lincoln based pro fresh from his maiden appearance in the open Championship at St Andrews.

Scott Emery (Woodhall Spa) could of been forgiven for thinking of what he would be spending the winners cheque on when he posted a 6 under par total of 99, the second lowest score in the Pro Ams history.  Scott's excellent golf will surely make him a contender at next weeks Karsten Bowl at Gainsborough Golf Club which will no doubt be fiercely contested as ever. Scott shot under par on each of the 9 holes to post a fine score on the leaderboard.  Paul Bradshaw made up the top 3.

Craig takes Route 66 to victory!

Craig Shelton produced a spectacular 4 under par score of 66 to claim victory in the Sutton Bridge Pro Am by 2 shots from European Senior Tour Professional Stephen Bennett who was back in Lincolnshire following 4 rounds at the demanding Carnoustie Links in the Seniors Open Championship.  Craig held off a host of seasoned winners including Bennett who finished 2nd with a 68, Tom Rastall and Scott Emery tied on 69 for 3rd place and Neil Evans took 4th place with a level par round of 70.

Order of Merit

The Ping sponsored Order of Merit is starting to take shape as we enter August. After 12 events its Iain Fulton (Belton Woods) who is leading the way having already broken through the 2000 point barrier.  Iain has proven that it is possible to juggle a Club Professionals job and also play to a high standard as the Order of Merit points to a consistency of Golf we would all enjoy.  However, with many events remaining the chasing pack have not given up on catching Iain just yet.  Scott Emery, Dan Clarke, Darryl Frame, Paul Streeter and Dan Greenwood will all still harbour hopes of being crowned Ping Order of Merit champion 2010.  The Lincolnshire PGA would once again like to thank Ping Europe for their continued sponsorship. A full Order of merit table can be found on the results section of the website.

A busy week for the Lincolnshire Pro's!

While the golfing world were focused on St Andrews and the 2010 Open Championship it was business as usual for the Lincolnshire Professionals who visited Grange Park at the start of the week.  It would be fair to say that the quality of Golf from the leading three players would not have been out of place at the home of golf.

John Wells (Cherry Burton) would be forgiven for thinking that it was not going to be his day when he made a bogey 5 at the relatively straight forward 1st hole, but birdies at the 5th, 6th and 9th saw him reach the turn in 2 under.  The back 9 continued in a similar fashion with birdies at the 11th, 12th, 15th and John capped a magnificent performance with a birdie 2 at the demanding 210 yard par 3 18th hole.  Scott Emery (Woodhall Spa) fired a 4 under 66 to claim 2nd place and his round couldn't have started any better by holing his 2nd shot at the 1st and posting further birdies at the 3rd and 4th saw him at 4 under through 4 holes. Further birdies at 11th and 13th were cancelled out by bogeys at 7th and 18th.  Neil Evans (Greetham Valley) made up the top 3 with a round of 68.

Scott Emery also guided his team of Grange Park members to victory as their knowledge of the course proved invaluable on their way to 17 under par score of 123.  The team consisted of Mark Altoft, J. Mitchell and D. Carter.

Meanwhile at the worlds most famous golf tournament Paul Streeter of Lincoln Golf Centre got off to a blistering start at the Open by holing a snaking 60 footer for eagle at the Par 5 the hole much to the delight of Peter Alliss in the commentry box he followed that with a birdie 3 at the demanding 6th Hole.  Unfortunately Paul was not able to maintain his charge as conditions detiriated and by Friday evening Paul's maiden appearance at the Open Championship was over with two scores of 76 missing the cut by 6 shots.  Paul certainly fell foul of the draw as his late tee times saw him encounter the worst of the playing conditions.

The Colleys sponsored Sleaford Pro Am took place in blustery conditions and in a Pro Am that you normally need a score of 5 under just to cover your travel expenses it was Neil Evans who played in some of the worst conditions posted a 2 under par score of 70 to claim 1st place.  Scott Emery continued his fine form with his second 2nd place finish of the week with a score of 71. Darryl Frame posted a level par round of 72 to make up the top 3.  However Darryl was bemoaning a lack of holed putts which ultimately proved costly but he took heart from his solid long game.
